Letter from the editor

One of my favourite things about hip hop is how a song can relate to your life. Lately “Closer” by Drake has been buzzing in my head, the funny thing is it’s not precisely the lyrics of the track that hit me, but what he says before he starts rapping.

Saying:
“I remember me and... me and Dee used to talk about this kinda stuff all the time, what it’s gone be like when you get closer to your dreams. I didn’t know much then, but probably tell ya a lil something now...”

It’s was about 4 months ago that I got closer to my dreams and had what Oprah would call an “Ah ha moment”. The idea to create HI MY NAME IS HIP HOP. Initially HI MY NAME IS HIP HOP was just another hip hop blog till it grew into an online hip hop magazine, now it gives me pleasure to announce that HI MY NAME IS HIP HOP is on it’s way to becoming a print magazine. Right now we at the genesis of our new journey, reaching for the stars and like Kanye we’re getting out our dreams. So have us in your prayers and oh oh...
welcome to HI MY NAME IS HIP HOP the _December_ issue

The scoop on what’s poppn in hip hop

Big Sean amazed by Chris Brown’s rap
Recently G.O.O.D Music rapper Big Sean hooked up with Chris Brown to collaborate on a few songs for Breezy’s mixtape “In My Zone 2”. Chris revealed that he was firstly shy to bust a rap for Big Sean, saying
“When Sean came in and heard me rap, I was kind of almost intimidated, because I thought this dude was probably going to think I'm wack”.
But Sean was rather impressed by Chris Brown’s rapping saying "Dawg you can rap”.

Soulja Boy’s first week sales
Crank That rapper Soulja Boy’s third album “DeAndre Way” failed to make good first week sales, selling only 13 000 copies in it’s first week, putting him at no.79 on charts.

J.Cole dreams of Grammy’s
Roc Nation’s rapper J.Cole spoke out on his dreams to scoop a Grammy and believes he has the right song to get him that Grammy saying “I have an incredible song that I hope wins a Grammy”. Further saying that “It’s a really J.Cole song, but in single form, but still emotional, really deep, thought- provoking type of song”.
The single will most probably come off his untitled debut album, which is due for release next year in March.

Nicki introduces us to Rrrrrosa
Young Money rapstress Nicki Minaj was recently on the George Lopez show discussing what she did on her day off and introducing her newest alter-ego Rosa (pronounced Rrrrosa). The colourful rapper also accepted a gift from George to protect her m.v.a (most valuable assets) her ass.

The scoop on whats poppin in the fashion world
Fashion icon of the month
Amber Rose
Now she may not be hip hop but we cant deny it was through one of hip hop’s greatest icons Kanye West, that the world became familiar with Amber Rose, plus this look she’s rocking made her a definite winner for this month’s fashion icon. Known for her deadly sex appeal Amber switched the game up by sporting baggy shorts with bright red Air Force, showing that you can still look gangsta and look hott!!!!

Clothing label of the month
Pastry clothing
If I could choose three words to describe this clothing label they’d be “Pretty Girl Swagg”. From their sexy skinnies, fresh stunners to their colourful sneakers, Pastry has made a name for themselves in hip hop fashion. Even boys have admitted how dope they find Pastry sneakers. These sisters have definitely gave Baby Phat a run for its money, working themselves up towards claiming the titled for biggest female hip hop clothing line.
Soooooo get yourself into the kitchen and get you some Pastry.

Must have of the month

Nerd glasses
From RUN DMC, Chris Brown, Tinie Tempah to even Jay-z, nerd glasses have found their way into the fashion world. I’m personally a big fan, from the colour nerd glasses to the lense-less this trend has became a must have to the hip hop wardrobe. The past few years have seen a comeback of 80s trend this being one of my top favourites. So make so you get with the pack and cop yourself a pair of fwesh nerd glasses.

Hip hop my disease

You know before I could even begin writing this, I had to think a lot about hip hop,and research about certain things also, but still nothing came to my mind. I was clueless for about three days, then today (3 November) as I was chilling with my boy Chemis3, we were talking about an event that could've possibly changed our whole lives completely, just in the name of hip hop.

It goes to show how much we love hip hop, we breath it, we live it, we are it. It has gotten us into so much trouble, since back in our high school days. Freestylin at the
library 'till late, forgetting that we have to go home. During the weekends we'd hustle to go to certain hip hop events just to be in an atmosphere filled with hip hop energy. The best part has to be the ciphers, where you'd see a crowd of emcees and random people, giving out props to an ill emcee, who has the gift to carry the invisible mic and use it to his advantage. Then there is the battles which have always been a way to increase skill and to test an emcee.

The streets we will never forget, because they made us who we are today. But still though having our own booth, going to gigs, dropping mixtapes, hip hop still manages to get us into trouble at times. Finding that we spend our time in the booth more than we do at home, having whole night recording sessions during exam time, getting the parents worried about what we might be doing at the place we always disappear off too.
Through out the time living in this lifestyle we have been doing the same things, from the street emcee, to the cat in the booth, your hip hop dancers, hip hop DJ's, graffiti artists, everything associated with hip hop...
We live it and I'm sure we die for it, all in the name of hip hop...

Skinny jeans and hip hop

    >>The jeans<<
Just the other night on facebook I read a comment written by someone saying that “If Pac was alive, kats wouldn’t be wearing skinnies”. That unfortunately is _the misconception in hip hop_.

People [fail] to understand that BAGGY JEANS weren’t always a symbol of hip hop. Look at the 80s and you’ll see that legendary hip hop icons like LL Cool J and Run DMC would rock skinny jeans and even tight leather pants. Skinnies were a huge trend in the 80s, which was the _decade of hip hop’s birth_.
So whether you like {skinny jeans} or not you cant deny them from hip hop.

Adidas

         >>The brand<<
If there's one clothing line that has stayed [faithful] to hip hop, it’s Adidas. From the days of RUN DMC, WU TANG CLAN to MISSY ELLIOT, Adidas has always represented hip hop. My relationship with Adidas is [deeper] than fwesh tracksuits or colourful sneakers. Adidas relation to me and hip hop is in its slogan “IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING”. That slogan represents more than just Adidas but represents hip hop. Jay z gets Decoded

Jay z gets [Decoded] with his much awaited book

Decoded is a book by Grammy winning rapper Jay z. The book is a narrative of his famous lyrics and his overall life. The book decodes 36 songs from Jay-Z, giving an intimate and personal account of his most famous raps. The book’s cover features an image of Andy Warhol’s “Rorschach”.
Heres a piece from the book
"When I first started working on this book, I told my editor that I wanted it to do three important things. The first was to make the case that hip-hop lyrics-not just my lyrics, but those of every great MC-are poetry if you look at them closely enough. The second was I wanted the book to tell a little bit of the story of my generation, to show the context for the choices we made at a violent and chaotic crossroads in recent history. And the third piece was that I wanted the book to show how hip-hop created a way to take a very specific and powerful experience and turn it into a story that everyone in the world could feel and relate to."

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

If any hip hop track has had an impact on my life these past few months it has to be “Ambitious Girl” by Wale. The more I hear the track, the more I believe that he had me in mind when he wrote it. I view this track as a letter from hip hop to an ambitious girl, me. This track is the type of inspiration I depend on when reaching for my dreams. I find the lyrics for this song to be something very special to me and it gives me great pleasure to share it with you.

Ambitious Girl

By Wale
Ambitious girl, the drive-drive me crazy
I'm tryna stay with you, lay with you
I'll pay your tuition, pray with you if you aint intuition
I'm tryna fuck the shit out your aspirations
see, the last one I dated, I hated
we wake up, I go to work, she leave out
come back with some make up, high heels, and a purse, or
worse I ask, "Babygirl, what you aspire to be?"
she reply to me like, "why you perspiring me?" bitch..
pardon me if I'm sweating you but,
I wanna see something else in you before I invest in you
ambitious girl, (what you sitting for)
I'd rather you tell me to hit you later,
because you gotta finish a paper
then to be in my face asking for a rosea cup
see these bitches can't cut in yo business
I'm in love with your business
and your productivity is the reason I interest, ambitious girl
see, I like the person that you are,
but I'm in love with the person that you have potential to be
and all your dreams sharing with me
and your secrets baring with me
and the flaws, you aint even got to mention to me,
ambitious girl, you just wanna win, and you'd rather chase your dreams,
then to try to chase these men
that try to chase these skirts
that try to chase these shots with flavors that not even as sweet as her
my ambitious girl, I wont forget you,
I just reflect on how I aint met you, yet boo
you somewhere, getting your life in order
so for the time being, I hope this (overscribe) might support her
support her, or work her, she worth it
go girl X3, ambition

Your scoop on what poppn in hip hop

Lloyd Banks speaks about not wanting to rapping at 40

Recently G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks spoke about not wanting to be rapping at 40 like Diddy and Jay-z, saying:
“I'm a fan of music. I keep a lot of my scraps, you know what I'm saying? I'll save them for my kids or my grandkids. I'm just in love with the process of making music. I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. But, then again, I don't see myself doing it in my 40's. Well, I won't say that I'll ever stop recording music. But, I don't think I'm going to have to want for certain things. Right now, this is my girlfriend. Hip-Hop is my girlfriend, hip-hop is my kid. Hip-Hop fills the void of the things that I don't have. I pay it 101% attention. I don't think I could be as good a father, or as good a husband or anything like that -- the way I am as an artist -- until I'm not an artist anymore.”

RZA talks about Redman’s Wu Tang membership status

Earlier this week Redman make a statement saying that he was a member of Wu Tang Clan, but wasn’t official till about 5 years ago, when he became the 11th Wu Tang member.
Wu Tang founding member RZA, recently commented on Redman’s statement saying
“Redman has always been with us. You know how many times we had Redman spitting in the studio or sitting in the car smoking? [laughs] Or how about how many times he's been popping up onstage with us because he always wanted to pop up and show love? If you look at his old videos, when Wu wasn't on TV, he was on TV rocking Wu Wear back in the days like that. In Wu-Tang, we call each other brothers because we grew up so many years together. But Redman is definitely like a first cousin.”

Wiz Khalifa arrested on marijuana charges
