U KNOW BIG SEAN
G.O.O.D Music rapper Big Sean is finally famous. The 23 year old rapper who is also referred to as Kanye West’s ‘royalty rapper’ has recently dropped his debut album, but don’t get it twisted Big Sean is no newbie in this industry. He has 3 successful mixtapes under his belt and has been signed with G.O.O.D Music since he was 19 years old.
Big Sean whose state name is Sean Michael Anderson grew up in Detroit, where he made a name for himself by hitting up a Detroit hip hop radio station where he would freestyle and battle weekly for a rap battle contest hosted by the radio station.
However Big Sean’s big career mark occurred in 2005 when he met his mentor Kanye West after a radio interview Kanye did on a Detroit radio station. Apparently Big Sean sneaked past security pretending to be an employee, to find Kanye in a back room and managed to get Kanye to hear him rap. At first Mr.West was said to be reluctant however gave Sean a listen and the rest... well that’s history.
But note... Ye only signed Big Sean two years later. However the story of Kanye and Big Sean is not completely one made from a fairytale. Apparently the two years before Sean was signed were some of the darkest times of his life. He had been part of a music duo with his best friend, however West only wanted to sign Big Sean and that led to the breaking up of the duo and the friendship. In those two years Kanye had shown an interest in Big Sean but no recording contract was given, Big Sean describes that time as ‘I was supposedly signed to Kanye West but all my friends thought I was lying”, in addition “I was broke as hell, at the studio, running through my moms money, my grandma’s money. And they were like, damn you should’ve gone to college.”
Since being signed Big Sean has released 3 mixtapes forming part of his Finally Famous mixtapes trilogy. Which have featured the likes of Tyga, Asher Roth, Mike Posner and Drake, who he worked with on the track ‘Made’ which he intended to feature on his album before the track was leaked on internet. Big Sean commented on the incident expressing his disappointment over the leak, saying it wasnt finished both musically and verse wise. He is also a brand ambassador for trendy urban brand TISA.
On the 28 June 2011, Sean released his debut album Finally Famous, the album debut at no.3 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold 87 000 copies in its first week. Surprising critics, Big Sean is one young rapper that’s most definitely going to make an impact in hip hop, I mean he is already credited for creating the stop-pause flow that rappers like Drake use.
