Letter from the editor

They say a picture can say a thousand words, so it only felt right for me to have this picture of what seems like J.Cole in prayer as the inspiration for my 2011. On new years day I sent out messages to all my friends dubbing 2011 as _The Come Up_ the year for all our dreams to materialise.

I began the first minutes of the year with a feeling of excitement like “hell yeah, 2011 is mine” and my year wouldnt be complete without hip hop and together we have a lot in store for ya. So keep your eyes locked on HI MY NAME IS HIP HOP and watch the online magazine take on new frontiers that you’ve never expected.
I said it once and ima say it again 2011 is the year of _The Come Up_. So without further a due welcome to HI MY NAME IS HIP HOP the _January_ issue.

B.O.B
One of my favourite blow up stories of the 2010 has to be B.O.B and his airplane to the top of the music industry. In just one year he went from the underdog to the superstar, scooping 5 Grammy nominations and numerous top ten singles.

Lil Kim’s Nicki Minaj look-a-like
The beef between hip hop’s veteran queen b Lil Kim and hip hop’s current leading lady Nicki Minaj continues, with Lil Kim taking it a step further. In her new music video for the tracks “Clap, clap/ Black Friday”, Lil Kim cast a Nicki Minaj look a like. I can’t wait to see the video drop to see what role they got Nicki Minaj’s clone playing.

Thoughts on hip hop...

Thoughts on hip hop...

Hip hop is more than jus a pair of fresh sneaks or baggy jeans. Nowadays you got hip hoppers wanting to be world leaders, the richest men on the planet or just the people who inform others about what’s happening. Hip Hop is the most influential culture around the world, from its music to its fashion, especially this past decade. Hip hop used to just be a couple of "niggahz" (excuse my niggahz) who would "hold down" the parks or blocks by having sessions. From windmills to punch lines, kick flips to rhymes, bboying, cyphers, DJ’s scratching turntables, beat boxers making beats from their mouths, all falling under the most important element in hip hop its music.

>>Trezmatiq<<

I’ve always believed in giving credit where credit is due, so I gotta show some love to what I believe is one of the fweshest hip hop groups locally.
Hailing from M-City (Midrand) is a crew (well more like a fam) named Trezmatiq, which consists of four members Trez, College Boy, Nu-Meric and Pillar. Trezmatiq’s sound is what South African hip hop acts need to get familiar with. Their mixture of college boy rap, storytelling, rnb and who could forget the beats, is what sets this group apart from any other act in South Africa. Their music is so on point, that it has replaced Wiz Khalifa (no comparison Wiz is still king) on my playlist. All four of the members contribute to the Trezmatiq sound in their own individual way and shine in their own light; here is a lil something on each member.

Trez
Trez is the fam’s producer. He’s beats are a fusion of rnb, soul, rock and of course hip hop. He is also a talented singer and did damage on the track he made titled “Selfish”, which has since become one of my favourite hip hop/ rnb joints.

College Boy
While most people may know him from the Krump fam 300, this young lad’s talents spread far more than just doing damage on the dance floor. His rap style is more on that laidback, college steez with a hot mixture of paper plane hustle that’s heard in most of today’s hip hop freshmen class rappers like Big Sean, Mac Miller and the likes.

Nu-Meric
Don’t get ish twisted this is no Vanilla Ice or even Eminem, but this is surely one talent “white” (hate to say that) rapper to take note of. His sound is one of is own, mixing real life story telling with a swaggful flow, which is witnessed on his tracks like “Hello World” and “Earth’s Angel” which is in memory of his friend who passed away early in 2010.

 Pillar Boi 1-Da
Last but definitely not least is Pillar who was born in Texas, USA. His sound is harder than the rest; reminisces of gangster hip hop that was popular in the early 2000’s with a mixture of club bangers. He brings a real hardcore feel to the group with his lyrical content about his life’s hardship and his aspirations in finding a way out.

Make sure you get familiar with this month’s Muthaland scoop, Trezmatiq by downloading their hot track “Boogie Man” of which has a fresh new dance (watch out dougie).

>>Straight Outta Compton<<

Classic album of the month
Straight Outta Compton is the debut album of West Coast rap group N.W.A (Niggaz with attitude). The album is ranked amongst one of the greatest rap albums of all time, leading the way into the gangsta rap genre. Straight Outta Compton was one of hip hop’s most controversial albums. The album features numerous hit tracks like “Gangsta Gangsta”, “Express Yourself” and the highly popular “Fuck Tha Police”, which gained the group a lot of fans and a lot of hate from the FBI who wrote a letter to the group’s record label Ruthless Records about their disapproval on the group’s message in the song

So if you make sho get familiar with the Straight Outta Compton album and by download a piece of hip hop’s history
