Your scoop on what’s poppin in the hip hop world

Tyga goes dyes!!!!
Recently Young Money rapper Tyga joined the trend of changing your natural hair colour by dying his hair from black to light brown.  Now with Chris Brown and Tyga now changing their hair colours I wonder who else is going to join this dye your hair tren...

Kanye’s new scarf steez
Monster rapper Kanye West has recently debut a line of silk scarves inspired by his Dark Twisted Fantasy album’s artwork. The scarves come in 5 limited designs and there are only 100 scarves of each design. The scarves are said to go for about R2 600 each and are exclusively sold by the French boutique Collette in Chicago.

Chris celebrates his 22 birthday
This month’s artist Chris Brown recently celebrated his 22nd birthday by throwing parties in Miami and Las Vegas. His party in Miami saw Young Money’s leader Lil Wayne in attendance and the one Las Vegas saw Breezy’s friend and fellow rnb crooner Ray J in attendance. One of the iconic elements of his birthday weekend was his graffitied cake, man if I could have a birthday cake like that!

Amber Rose discusses the downgrade insults
Relationship shocker of the year was the relationship between Black and Yellow rapper Wiz Khalifa and Kanye West’s ex Amber Rose. Recently Amber opened up to King magazine about the comparison between the two rappers saying
“There’s no comparison in personalities. You know when people say how do you go from Kanye to Wiz Khalifa, that’s a downgrade. But the only question I ask them is: have you ever dated Kanye? Because I have, and believe me, I did not downgrade at all.”
With all that said I'm interest to hear what Kanye has to say about all this.

Jigga speaks out on illuminate affiliation

Blueprint rapper Jay-z has spoken out about the illuminate rumours saying “I think people can;t handle when somebody else is successful” further saying “Something has got to be wrong, you gotta be down with some higher power. And I guess when someone else is successful, it makes you feel like maybe you’re a failure. So it can’t be you, it has to be some other force”.
Last year Jigga addressed the rumours directly in the track “Free Mason”. Now I think its time to let go and let Jigga be, if you think his illuminate and you don’t like it, then stop listening to his music. Fullstop.

Krump

Krump aint dead!!!
Is Krump really not dead?
I guess that's the question that has been raised highly this year. Judging from the looks of things, even the best krumpers in the game such as
Xtreme Movement, Impact and Street Kingdom don't have high views of uploaded videos on YouTube as they used to do from previous years.

Meet the freshmen...

Diggy
The first time I heard that Diggy Simmons was now a rapper I immediately assumed that here comes another Bow Wow, but after hearing his mixtape ‘Airborne’ I was shocked and impressed because this youngin is unlike many young rappers that had have come before him. His sound is mature and not bubble gum as you would assume.  His lyrical content is on point and is not superficial. Early this year he was named as part of the XXL Freshmen Class of 2011. With a new mixtape in the loops and an album which is said to drop this year. I excitedly await both these projects.

I'm Gay

I’M GAY-LIL B. Hip hop weighs in on homosexuality and homophobia.
Recently at the Coachella festival West Coat rapper Lil B told fans that he will be titling his upcoming album “I’M GAY”. This announcement has sparked a lot of controversy within hip hop, which is known to have very little acceptance of homosexuality, especially with regards to men. The young rapper explained the reason behind the title to MTV, saying “I’m very gay, but I love women. I’m not attracted to men in any way. I've never been attracted to a man in my life. But yes I am gay, I’m so happy. I’m a gay heterosexual male”.

Running with a Thundakat
Kidd Fresh
When it comes to hip hop dancing in South Africa one crew’s name is forever being heard, that being the Repertoires also referred to as the Repz. The dance crew has recently hit the screens with a new reality show called Running With the Reps. However MUTHALAND SCOOP this month is not about the crew, but more specifically about one of my favourite dancers and members in the crew; Kidd Fresh also known as Thato De Luxe. Kidd Fresh is one of the freshest poppers I know and is also an aspiring rapper. From his dance moves to his over package, Kidd is a youngin to take note of.
1. When did u fall in love with hip hop?
When I was about 11. I still bump that Marshall Mathers LP from time to time. I dunno… hip hop has always been something different. The culture is just me in everyway, feel me?

2. What comes to mind when you hear the statement "Hi my name is Hip Hop"?
Ha-ha, so Hip Hop is a person and she's greeting me? Let's date now J

3. When did you begin dancing?
Around the age of 14, but I’ve always been a mover and shaker, even in my mom’s tummy, nam’saying?

4. What are your thoughts on homosexuality in hip hop?
No Homo! Lol nah I mean, I don't hate gay people or anything. If a dude kicks lines I can feel, no matter his sexual orientation, then I'll listen. Never been phased by homosexuality as long as it does not involve me.

5. What are your thoughts on South African hip hop?
We need growth. I think SA rappers aren't hungry enough, I can say AKA and Kwesta are the only 2 new school rappers who you can almost tell are in it for the long run. To much commercial sound and not enough content with substance, I feel like a lot of hip hop artists aren't driven and you can hear it in their lines.

6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Heavyweight in the entertainment industry, I don't plan on being on top but as close as possible, miracles don't happen in 5 years, but becoming a household name does though.

7. If you could use 5 words to describe what hip hop is to you what would they be?
Passion, raw, emotion, inspiration, sexy.

8. What makes the Repz different from any other dance crew in South Africa (beside y'all having your own reality show)?
Repz is a movement, not a dance crew…

9. Classic hip hop question: who is the best between Drake and J.Cole and why?
Drake, I'm thinking in terms of marketability. You can sell Drake to almost anyone, his content is widely spread and he is a talent of note. I feel like Drake is realer , he doesn't talk about "the streets " but rather that which was relevant in he's life like he's parents divorce and girl trouble.  After all is that not hip hop… making the music your life story.

10. Few people know that you’re an aspiring rapper, if you could sign with any record label, who would u sign with?
None, its either you independent or you’re not caking . . .
