If I had to define new skool swag in one word it would be Diggy. The Airborne rapper has done justice by his mixtape title and remains fly. Whether its fashion week, a magazine photo shoot or just pics of him with friends, you guaranteed to see this kat on point, from head to toe. Just look at his pics and you’ll see why his this month FASHION ICON.

Clothing label of the month

Strussbob Apparel

Strussbob is a clothing line all about merging South African urban lifestyle with fashion. The labels logo is the African continent with a strussbob sign which is the crossed fingers. Strussbob has been spotted being worn by hip hop kats like Bow Wow and Khuli Chana, to mention a few. My favourite item in their clothing line is their caps which come in the freshest colours.
So do yourself a favour and get familiar with Strussbob Apparel!!!

Must have of the month
Blackberry

Now I’ll admit I was never a fan of Blackberry phones, they just didn’t appeal to me. But then I got familiar with the phone and the features it has and I was blown away. This is the ideal hip hop phone; it posses its own swag, culture and street cred. With Young Money rapper Drake admitting that all his raps are written on a Blackberry, never on paper.
So make sure you cop a Blackberry and hit me up on BBM at 245E8C54. Yesssur!!!!

Lloyd Banks speaks about not wanting to rapping at 40

Recently G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks spoke about not wanting to be rapping at 40 like Diddy and Jay-z, saying:
“I'm a fan of music. I keep a lot of my scraps, you know what I'm saying? I'll save them for my kids or my grandkids. I'm just in love with the process of making music. I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. But, then again, I don't see myself doing it in my 40's. Well, I won't say that I'll ever stop recording music. But, I don't think I'm going to have to want for certain things. Right now, this is my girlfriend. Hip-Hop is my girlfriend, hip-hop is my kid. Hip-Hop fills the void of the things that I don't have. I pay it 101% attention. I don't think I could be as good a father, or as good a husband or anything like that -- the way I am as an artist -- until I'm not an artist anymore.”

RZA talks about Redman’s Wu Tang membership status

Earlier this week Redman make a statement saying that he was a member of Wu Tang Clan, but wasn’t official till about 5 years ago, when he became the 11th Wu Tang member.
Wu Tang founding member RZA, recently commented on Redman’s statement saying
“Redman has always been with us. You know how many times we had Redman spitting in the studio or sitting in the car smoking? [laughs] Or how about how many times he's been popping up onstage with us because he always wanted to pop up and show love? If you look at his old videos, when Wu wasn't on TV, he was on TV rocking Wu Wear back in the days like that. In Wu-Tang, we call each other brothers because we grew up so many years together. But Redman is definitely like a first cousin.”

Wiz Khalifa arrested on marijuana charges

Is Tinie Tempah going to be the next Roc Nation artist?!!!!!

Recently Jay z has revealed that he is interest in sign British rapper Tinie Tempah, going on to say “If he wants to be successful, he should come to [Roc Nation]. I’ve been hearing about him”. Jigga also revealed that they are currently in discussions with Tempah.

Homosexaulity and hip hop

Now this must be one of the most controversial subjects in hip hop. The thought of a gay rapper seems to disgust many hip hop lovers, with some even saying it’s immoral. But how can hip hop play the morality card when it promotes drugs, violence and sex.

I believe the reason that gays aren’t accepted in hip hop is because they are associated with femininity with contradicts hip hop’s muscular and aggressive image. In an article I recently read about the subject, the author refers to the fact that “rappers must always be the dominators, thus they cannot be on the receiving end of the stick (pardon the pun).”   This is also the reason why hip hop is so accepting to lesbians, because they are perceived to be hard on the outside and dominating to their partners.
Former Mtv executive Terrence Dean released a book titled “Hiding in Hip Hop: The Down Low”. The book uses fake names to reportedly speak about people in the industry. The books also speaks about a number of parties where men would hood up with other men.The book reveals how rap isn’t what it portrays to be with it’s hard aggressive muscular image.
Several rappers have spoke out on hip hop and it being homophobic like Kanye West saying that hip hop was always about “Speaking your mind and about breaking down barriers, but everyone in hip hop discriminates against gay people” adding that in slang, the word gay is “the opposite, the exact opposite word of hip hop”.
With one of the top rappers speaking out against homophobia in hip hop, the question lies are we ready to accept a gay rapper... well Deadlee is an openly gay rapper, I bet you probably never heard of him before huh.. See my point exactly.
I personally am not against homosexuality, I believe that we have the choice to be who we wanna be and love who we wanna love. But regarding hip hop I don’t think I’m ready for a gay rapper, maybe because it’s the opposite of what Ive grown to known hip hop as. But I definitely don’t draw out the possibility of there one day being a successful openly gay rapper.

Meet South Africa's most underrated hip hop group
Spazashop Boyz

I remember the first time I heard of these kats, their name alone caught my attention, they were the featured performance on South Africa’s youth hip hop show Shiz Niz. I remember one of the members wearing a zulu vest with skinnies while the other wore a blazer with the sickest stunners I had ever seen. But enough about their name and swagg, lets talk about their sound.
Their mix of electro and hip hop with that international steeze makes them something to take notice of, these kats are so on point that they got me hip hop sprung. Right after their performance I made sure I hit em up on facebook to check out what the deal is with Spazashop Boyz. I found out that they have their own website on Reverbnation where they continuously post up music to listen to and download.

My advice would be for you to get familiar with Spazashop Boyz by hiting them up on their facebook group Spazashop Boyz or checking them out at www.reverbnation.com/spazashopboyz
